You Cannot Open A Book Without Learning Something*

The last Saturday in April is Independent Bookstore Day. In a world of tweets and algorithms and pageless digital downloads, bookstores are not a dying anachronism. They are living, breathing organisms that continue to grow and expand. In fact, there are more of them this year than there were last year. Take a look at the photo above, it shows just a small selection of wonderful books we have talked about at Life Elsewhere. If you overlooked any of them. we encourage you to pop into your local independent bookstore and search them out. While you are there, help us a little and mention you heard about the book on Life Elsewhere.

A Timely, Intelligent Thriller

nicholas petrie

The Drifter is a timely, intelligent thriller.” Says Norman B, about Nicholas Petrie‘s first novel. “It’s a page-turner, with gripping twists and turns, a cast of cleverly imagined characters and scenes so well orchestrated, you’d think Petrie had been at this for years!”  The one-time carpenter, remodeling contractor and building inspector, joins Norman B in the next edition of Life Elsewhere to talk about The DrifterNicholas Petrie modestly recounts the process of writing his book and developing his hero, Peter Ash.  Although a work of fiction, The Drifter calls upon events in recent history. His hero, a damaged veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan attempts to put his life together, then comes up against a criminal web in contemporary Milwaukee. Yet Petrie is guarded when asked if he had an urge to offer up his opinions on war and politics. Instead, suggesting that readers can formulate their own viewpoint. Make sure you don’t miss another engaging interview on Life Elsewhere.
