Lola Dutronic Wanna Mmmm You

Lola Dutronic are not shy about referencing their influences. As a matter of fact, the electronic duo probably expect you to be familiar with the recordings of Serge GainsbourgFrançoise Hardy, Brigitte Bardot and John Barry. Then, you’ll understand why Lola Dutronic‘s clever homages to icons of a bygone era are hardly pastiches, but inspired interpretations. To achieve their signature sound, Lola Dutronic have adopted a unique multi-step method of making music, British-born producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist, Richard Citroen composes and compiles the instrumentation at his Toronto studio, then sends the MP3 tracks to vocalist Stephanie B, who works her magic from her home in Dusseldorf. The duo’s most recent collaboration produced Lost In Translation, a  first-rate album, showcasing their gift for understanding retro without resulting to parody. In the next edition of Life ElsewhereCitroen talks candidly with Norman B about influences, working with a partner on a different continent, explicit lyrics and much more.

Siv Jakobsen – The Interview.

Siv Jakobsen pic 1“I was entranced by her voice and her ability to use silences or pauses so effectively.” Says Norman B about Siv Jakobsen, a talented new musical artist from Norway. The Life Elsewhere host’s unbridled enthusiasm led to a request for an interview with the Oslo-based musician. Arrangements were quickly made, and with disarming candor, Siv  chatted with Norman B for twice as long as the scheduled interview time. “Listen carefully to her lyrics,” Mr. B continues, Siv  displays a maturity, way beyond her years. Plus, she is able to introduce a fresh, emotive take on a well-known and often-covered song, like Dolly Parton’s Jolene.”

Toward the end of the interview, Norman B asks Siv Jakobsen if she would select this week’s Hit That Never Was. With unsurprising confidence, Siv does not hesitate by selecting a relatively new release from American Country artist, Liza Anne. “I know it’s not old,” says Siv , “but I really believe Take It Back should have been a hit!”

After the interview, Norman B reflected, “It’s rare that you come across an artist who is so self-assured, yet completely down-to-earth and without pretension.” We are predicting you will be hearing a lot more from Siv Jakobsen. Make sure you do not miss this up-close and personal interview on the next edition of Life Elsewhere.

Siv Jakobsen’s most recent EP, The Lingering is available now. Below is the beautiful video for the single How We Used To Love.
