On Age & Youth. The Conversations & The Music.

IMG_1664

The photo above of two smiling, bespectacled and silver-haired chaps, was taken last year, on a mild sunny, winter’s day, in Hudson, upstate New York. The occasion was the first time Wreckless Eric and Norman B had met face to face. Fueled by many cups of espresso, their long animated conversation covered topics as diverse as the pitfalls of pop stardom to the pratfalls of politicians. Because they enjoyed each other’s company, Eric and Norman agreed to continue their vibrant conversation as often as possible. So it came to be, just one day ago, after returning from a European tour to promote his excellent new album AmericaWreckless Eric called Norman B  catch up and chat. The conversation immediately focussed on the horrible news of David Bowie‘s passing. Both Eric called Norman were in unanimous agreement on the importance of Bowie, not only on culture but also in their own lives. As they continued reminiscing, the dialogue inevitably turned to the omnipresent topic of age. The author of the ubiquitous Whole Wide World did not hesitate in expressing his disdain for aging rock stars who wear wigs and other age-defying props. Hear what other barbs Eric comes up with in the next edition of Life Elsewhere, where we also preview a couple of tracks from America.

From a dialogue centered on age, we turn to a celebration of youthfulness and an in-depth conversation with Sorcha Richardson. The Dublin-born, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter caught Norman B’s attention  with her single, Petrol Station. “This is an artist to watch!” Says, Norman B. “Her music is full of emotion and describes real life events. Don’t overlook this exceptional talent!”  Sorcha chats with disarming honesty, touching on her background, writing songs, love affairs and her dad’s passion for Bob Marley and The Doors.

Revealing Conversations

After hearing just one song, Norman B was determined to find out more about the singer-songwriter, with a distinctive Irish brogue. “This beautiful song suggests she knows all about love and broken hearts.” He reasoned, after playing Petrol Station for the umpteenth time. Understanding the trials and tribulations of being in love, is one of the first questions Norman B asks the talented Sorcha Richardson in the upcoming interview on Life Elsewhere. The Brooklyn-based, Dublin-born Richardson chats with disarming honesty, touching on her background, writing songs, love affairs and her dad’s passion for Bob Marley and The Doors. Plus Sorcha shares three more examples of her exceptional music. Make sure you do not miss, Sorcha Richardson in an exclusive interview with Norman B on the next edition of Life Elsewhere.

The awful, sad news of David Bowie‘s death is still so difficult to comprehend. We have been inundated with requests to make available some of Norman B’s intimate conversations with David. Here then, is a glimpse of their memorable rapport. David speaks openly and eloquently with a gorgeous wit on topics as diverse as having a runny nose to his disgust with racism. Rest in peace, David.

Marvin & Bob

In the latest edition of Life Elsewhere a listener wrote in to ask us to play for the Hit That Never Was, the Marvin Gaye classic, Let’s Get It On remixed and reworked to the rhythm of Bob Marley’s equally classic, Waiting In VainThe phone-lines, the texts and emails flooded in with rapturous applause for what has to be a unique melding of two genres of music. Can there be anything comparable? We’d like to know, send your unique Hit That Never Was suggestion to hitthatneverwas (at) lifeelsewhere (dot) co

The Marvin & Bob mash-up fitted perfectly into a bumper-packed program starting with Theresa Argie, the co-author of America’s Most Haunted: The Secrets of Famous Paranormal Places.  Theresa told us about some of her favorite haunted places and Norman B recounted his experience with a ghost in Livingstone, Montana. Next we heard from Eric Kaplan, comedy writer and co-producer of The Big Bang Theory who explained to Norman B why his new book is called Does Santa Exist? This was followed by the Hit That Never Wasand a Life Elsewhere exclusive interview with Gary Wright. Best known for his 1976 hit songs Dream Weaver and Love Is Alive and for his role in helping establish the synthesizer as a leading instrument in rock and pop music.Gary has just written a book, aptly titled Dream Weaver with the subtitle, A Memoir; Music, Meditation, and My Friendship with George Harrison. Finally, we turned our attention to Florida Amendment 2 with our two experts, pro-legalization advocate and attorney, Ted Corless and eco farmer and horticulturist, Robert Tornello. Both guests passionately explained why they believe voting Yes on Amendment 2 is vitally important.
