The Anglophile Edition

Codswallop! Goolies! Knackers! Bonce! Snog! Fizzog!

Just a few examples of strange words currently in use in Great Britain. Strange as in they are not in common use in the United States. It’s the difference in language and culture that Fraser McAlpine illustrates so well in his new book Stuff Brits Like: A Guide to What’s Great About Great Britain. As lead writer for Anglophenia, BBC America’s blog for Anglophiles, McAlpine spends a good deal of time arguing the finer points of Dr. WhoSherlockDownton Abbey and anything with Tom Hiddleston in it. Fraser joins Norman B to explain Stuff Brits Like, his guide to the eccentricities and particular tastes of the British.

Wreckless Eric, a true British eccentric, returns to Life Elsewhere. This the third installment of Norman B’s exclusive interview with the man who penned the iconic Whole Wide World. Eric gives his considered opinion on succumbing to booze, getting old; the bureaucracy of France; the biggest backwater in the world; the Stones; the music business and more. Eric, a well-informed man, is not afraid to voice his opinion on a variety of topics, delivered with a typical British sardonicism.

Life Elsewhere airs Sunday, July 12 at 12 noon ET on The Source WMNF HD3 and Monday, July 13 at 5.00pm PT at NWCZ Radio
